One Touch of Venus

Cast included: Melissa Errico (Venus) , Andy Taylor (Rodney), Jane Krakowski (Gloria), David Alan Grier (Professor), Carol Woods (Molly)

With a book by Ogden Nash and a score by Kurt Weill, this musical, based on the text "The Tinted Venus," tells the story of the statue of the goddess that springs to life and falls in love with a barber. The luscious music holds such treasures as "Speak Low" and "Stranger Here Myself." This production, featuring Rob Fisher conducting the Coffee Club Orchestra, was directed by Leonard Foglia and the original Agnes de Mille ballet sequences were staged by Hope Clark. Melissa won rave reviews for her performance, and won the Lucille Lortel Award for "Best Actress." An album of Melissa singing the role of Venus was recorded at Abbey Road Studio in London with the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Owen Edwards. See Press.
